Did you know?
#1 – Chisago County wrote a solar ordinance in 2014 that declared Solar Power Generation a “Permitted Use” in the Agricultural Districts?
#2 – Under the ordinance in effect from 2014 - April 18, 2018, projects under 20 acres were “Administratively Approved”, which required zero notice to adjoining property owners and no Public Hearing before being built?
#3 – Franconia currently has 4 Solar Power Generation Facilities that are either operational or under construction on Olinda Trail. (There is also a 5th project another mile North in Chisago Lakes Township along Olinda Trail.)
#4 - As of early 2018 Chisago County had 24 commercial solar projects either already built or in the que. Approx. 1,600 acres of former farmland now in Solar Power Facilities.
#5 – Are you aware that Chisago County just recently conducted a Public Hearing Process to re-write our solar ordinance?
(Projects capable of producing over 50 megawatts will be referred to the MN Public Utilities Commission)
Changes in our Chisago County Solar Ordinance, following the 2018 re-write:
Buffer Plantings required on all sides
74% opaqueness instead of specific tree requirements @ end of 3 years with performance funding guarantee
Setbacks from homes @ 275'
Setbacks from Right-of-Ways @ 75' from ALL roads
(note: this is changed from 73' from centerline for Township roads and 135' from centerline of County Roads and State highways)
